Takumen, located in Long Island City, quickly made it to our “favorite restaurants” list.  I always attempt to order well-rounded meals when dining out, and any restaurant with fruits and veggies on the menu rise to the top of my list.

Takumen doesn’t disappoint. The ‘Avocado Salad,’ ‘Kombu Cauliflower & Broccoli Pop,’ and ‘Yukari-Cucumber’ are delicious options.

The first time we tried this restaurant, I ordered the ‘Takumen Chicken Rice Bowl,’ and Big and Little proceeded to eat all but ONE piece of my chicken.  This is next-level chicken nuggets.  I LOVE the rice bowls, which have plenty of veggies.

The ‘Cold Shiso Edamame’ is highly recommended – way more interesting than the average steamed pods with sea salt.  If your kids haven’t tried edamame, don’t make the mistake of eating the stringy and tough pod.  Gently put the pod behind your teeth and nibble until the bean works itself out of the pod.  They’re fun and delicious.

Big devours the ramen.  We typically order the ‘Ban Ban Chicken’ or the ‘Night Chasu-Men.’ The soft-boiled eggs are perfectly cooked, so we always order one for each kiddo. I also recommend a side of the ‘Takumen Chicken’ and a veggie to round out the meal.

I’d be remiss if I did not take a moment to compliment the service – every person we’ve encountered is polite and efficient. The food arrives quickly, but without feeling rushed.  And bonus points for providing chopstick trainers for the kids.
