Do not let the somewhat unassuming space in trendy Long Island City (LIC) fool you. Casa Enrique is here to compete. Since Casa Enrique has been awarded a coveted Michelin star consistently since 2014, you might say they are being rewarded for their efforts.

Chef Cosme Aguilar elevates familiar Mexican dishes, such as enchiladas de pollo en salsa verde and enchiladas de pollo con mole, through both taste and presentation. And his creativity and skill are showcased in the magic he showers upon basics, such as guacamole and arroz y frijoles (rice and beans).

Heat adds kick to enchiladas de pollo en salsa verde. I’ve ordered this dish twice and enjoyed it twice. While a popular and beautiful dish, the fish tacos were boring in comparison to the treatment of the rest of the dishes. The guacamole, and both the tacos de suadero and tacos de pastor, are loved by both Big and Little.

If your Littles do not tolerate heat, be sure to check-in with your server on the heat level of dishes.

We have returned many times, and so far, the execution is consistent and reliable. Casa Enrique does not appear to be a restaurant that allows itself to become distracted by the trend du jour.

Buen Provecho.
