We were searching for a place to grab an early dinner after a visit to the Museum of Natural History. What a happy coincidence to find Salumeria Rosi! I highly recommend a visit to this haven in the Upper West Side of New York City. Salumeria Rosi focuses on cuisine from northern Italy and features a salumi shop at the entrance.
Notwithstanding the somewhat unusual juxtaposition of a restaurant in a salumi shop (or perhaps it is the other way around), the atmosphere is warm. I love the fresh rosemary sprigs tucked into the napkins and the diminutive fresh flower arrangements.

But, it is the food that commands a return visit. The affettati misti (cured meat platter) was a savory delight. The skirt steak was portioned for perfect bites that provided an excellent combination of flavor and texture. We tried several pasta dishes. Each dish was rich yet balanced – from creamy carbonara to a bright tomato sauce – and the pasta itself was cooked to perfection. The grilled asparagus should not be missed! It had right amount of crunch with a touch of wood-fired smoke.
